Named for Samuel Diller, an early settler, Diller was platted on Oct. 1, 1880 and developed from the building of Burlington and Missouri Railroad. Diller encouraged many of his friends from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, to come to Nebraska, even loaning money to many of the first settlers to purchase land. his home served as the first school and church. he also donated the land for a cemetery.
During its existence, Diller hosted a newspaper, a hotel, a bank, an opera house, and even an orphanage.
